Jake is Looking Ahead

Hello everyone, my name is Jacob Balistreri. I am a senior here at Slippery Rock University that majors in Digital Media Production. It is actually my last semester of college. New Media Journalism is a class that is very relevant to my major. As someone that is planning on going into the production side of journalism, I feel that this class can only strengthen my skills. I had a very busy summer because I actually had interned at this live production company called Hughies Event Production Services. This was a very exciting internship for me as I had learned much about live production work during it. However, my passions lie in film-making and news room work. I previously interned at WPXI-TV and had a great internship experience at t his NBC affiliate TV station.

The title of my blog Looking ahead, is a great way to think about the news industry. With all of the different media outlets, they are constantly looking ahead to see what is happening in the different communities around the country, and world. Now more than ever, we need reliable news and people that are willing to put out this news. Hard work is happening with the different camera crew, and reporters at the different television stations. They want to make sure that everything is great before it goes out.

Throughout my life many different things have shaped me into the Digital Media Production, film making enthusiast, that I am today. I am from Pittsburgh, PA. More specifically the neighborhood that I grew up in was Pleasant Hills. After graduation, I am hoping to either move back to Pittsburgh or to move to another big city. I love exploring, playing sports, and watching sports. I am an all Pittsburgh sports fan since I am from the city. I really hope that the Steelers make it to the superbowl this year. That is the Pittsburgh sports team that I follow the most besides the Pittsburgh Penguins. I hope that the Penguins make all of the way to the Stanley Cup this year too. I am a constant social media user. I love the fact that we can all connect super easily with anyone with the click of a button through social media. The social media that I have is Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, and instagram. Be sure to follow me on these accounts and then I will follow you back. I have always been a follower of USA Today. I feel that the news that comes out from USA Today is very reliable and it always keeps me up to date with everything. I also spend my time reading ESPN for different sports related news. They always have information the fastest about my favorite teams, and never fail to give me great insight about the different players on the teams that I root for.
